Reflections, Hope, and Joy this Holiday Season
by Todd Baggett, December 14, 2012
As 2012 draws to a close, I wanted to take a moment to wish everyone a happy holiday season. Merry Christmas, Feliz Navidad, Happy Hanukkah, Joy to the World!!! Whatever beliefs we hold as individuals and communities, this is the time of year for reflection and hope.
Reflection is a powerful tool- helping us see what we did well and what we want to improve upon in the coming year. As we look ahead, it is Hope that pulls us forward. It is that positive expectation of the future, that deep seated belief that everything will be alright. We all have the power and the will to do good for others.
Whatever your beliefs are this holiday season, no matter how much or how little you have, the gift of the season is spreading hope by helping others. This can be as simple as a warm smile, supporting a co-worker in a time of struggle with a few kind words of encouragement, offering someone a mug of hot chocolate, donating a gift to Toys for Tots, or volunteering your time at the local food bank.
It is through these and thousands of other small acts of kindness that we sew the fabric of community and provide hope to others. It is recognizing and experiencing this that brings joy to our own hearts. You must have hope, to be able pass it on. May we remain conscious of this in the weeks and months ahead; for kindness leads to hope, and hope leads to joy. Let us be the catalyst of kindness, hope, and joy in our families, work places, and community this holiday season and in the year to come!
